Artist Statement
UPCOMING Exhibition at Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre Gallery: LANDSCAPES AND STILL LIFE by Sheri Larsen. Opening event Sept 3rd, 5pm-7pm. This is a four artist exhibition which runs until Sept 29th, 2010. I have been exhibiting and selling my paintings in solo and group exhibitions since 2004. At present I'm working on a series entitled "Body Abstractions"using the digital camera, and myself as the subject. I was the Art Coordinator for the Hampton Canada Day Art Festival for 3 years and have also instructed workshops for Hooper Studios, Saint John Boys and Girls Club, and during a summer arts program through the Town of Quispamsis, NB. I work in expressionism style on canvas, paper, masonite, wood, and various other surfaces including furniture. I use oil, acrylic, watercolor, pen & ink, mixed media, collage, charcoal, pastel, chalk, fine wool and anything at my finger tips. As well I shoot all my own photographs and create digital artwork.In the summer of 2008 on a trip to Ottawa to visit the National Art Gallery, (and the War Museum) I had the pleasure of viewing the masterpieces of Picasso, Van Gogh, Marc Chagall, Klimt, Degas and Matisse. I have completed many commissions over the years and have won awards for my work in juried competitions. My artwork may be found internationally and is represented at the Gillmor's Coach House Gallery, St. George, New Brunswick and I am always willing to consider other gallery representation. Body Abstractions Series: "It is confidence in our bodies, minds and spirits that allows us to keep looking for new adventures, new directions to grow in, and new lessons to learn - which is what life is all about."Oprah Winfrey (1954 - ), Oprah Magazine, May 2004 Artist Statement: -A series of digital images displaying body abstractions-The mind sees what it wants to see, and we all see things differently.
